Construction workers watch recovery effort / Cornelius Today

[Updated 10:30 am Oct. 6] A search and rescue operation in the lake off Brigadoon turned into a recovery late Wednesday afternoon, with the Cornelius Police and Fire departments on the scene at a construction site.

A worker apparently drowned behind a mansion under construction on Brigadoon.

Cornelius Police have not released the victim’s name. The body was recovered at 6:32 pm Wednesday by the Sherrills Ford fireboat.

Mecklenburg County records indicate the property is owned by Ray Evernham, the well-known analyst for ESPN’s NASCAR coverage as well as owner of his own team, Evernham Motorsports.

So sad! Often these construction workers will go in to cool off, and don’t know how to swim. It’s happened many times in Cornelius over the years.
