March 25. By Dave Vieser. Cornelius’ annual budget retreat—a strenuous, two-day work session—gets under way tomorrow at the Graylyn International Conference Center in Winston Salem. The mayor, members of the Board of Commissioners and key staff members attend and, like a company, get into the details of budgeting and goal-setting. The workshop begins at 9 am both days.
The retreat sessions are open to the public. They will also be broadcast live on the town website: www.cornelius.org.
By state law, the town budget must be adopted by June 30. It will run from July 1 this year through June 30 of next year.
According to the announcement issued by the town, other items of town business as consented to by the board of commissioners may also be discussed.

Why go out of town to have a budget meeting and it is open to the public,if you want to drive to Winston-Salem and stay overnite to hear both days of discussion. How much money is budgeted for the retreat.
Last year someone suggested it be held here in the town hall and be catered by local restaurants. That would serve two purposes: town citizens could easily attend and our local resturants would get town money as well as publicity.
