Traffic study meeting Sept. 20 for Main Street

Last Updated: September 15, 2016By

While work continues on the I-77 toll lanes, Cornelius is also looking at traffic on Main Street between Washam Potts Road and Potts Street just north of the YMCA. A public meeting will be held on 6-8 pm Tuesday Sept. 20 to solicit public opinion and comment.

“The Town is partnering with NCDOT on this study,” said Assistant Town Manager Andrew Grant. “The retained engineering firm, WSP/Parsons Brinckerhoff, will run the meeting and provide a presentation at 6:30. Following the consultants’ presentation, guests will have the opportunity to ask questions and review alternatives.”

One of the study’s goals is to evaluate alternatives for vehicles, bikes and pedestrians along the Main Street/Hwy. 115 corridor. The highway often becomes congested when it is used as an alternative for north/south traffic during times of delays or incidents on I-77.

The challenge facing traffic engineers is to develop options which can improve vehicular movement while also providing a safe conduit for both pedestrians and bicyclists. The meeting will be held in the community room at Town Hall.

Mmmm another meeting for traffic control . Now on Main st and 115 because of I-77 . With NCDOT now that’s funny .They can fix all the traffic problems for Cornelius ,Davidson ,Huntersville with no more meetings, all In one sweep of a pen. Kill the contract for I-77 Tolls and put in free lanes that will take all the traffic problems in and around all the town’s . Can you imagine no traffic problems on I-77 and in the town’s and no more taxpayers money going to waste. Mmmmmm …….just my two cents
