Last Updated: June 8, 2022By

June 8. The Ada Jenkins Center invites the community to celebrate its second annual Juneteenth gathering on June 18.

Juneteenth, a holiday originating in Galveston, Texas in 1865 and now recognized in North Carolina and forty-three other states, celebrates the emancipation of African Americans.

The free celebration and family fun day runs 11:30 am until 2 pm at the Ada Jenkins Center, 212 Gamble St., Davidson.

The celebration will include slam poetry, performances, a keynote address, music, dancing, shopping, food trucks, and more. The first 500 people to check in at the welcome tent will receive a complimentary lunch.

“Juneteenth is an important celebration for our community – what many consider to be a true Independence Day. We’re so glad folks in Davidson can gather together for this great event and hope to see many familiar and new faces on this day of reflection and fun.”

Let’s not forget that the deplorable existence of slavery was not unique to the USA. Far from it! Europe and Africa drove most of it! The political left seeks to use race to divide us for political ends. The reality is, that the democrat party fought to keep slavery while the republicans sought to abolish it.

Sir, I suggest you study American history between 1860 and 1930s: the two dominant political parties in the US essentially swapped ideologies. It was not the conservative party that sought to abolish slavery; rather it was the more liberal one of that time that did so.

      Slavery anywhere is indefensible. Period.
