Pre-development review today for new commercial project on W. Catawba

Proposed commercial project on W. Catawba
May 9. By Dave Vieser. A proposed 14,000 square foot commercial project on a 4.35 acre site on West Catawba Avenue comes before the Pre-development Review Committee (PDRC) at their meeting today.
It’s located on the site off the former First Community Bank just east of Chick-fil-A
According to Cornelius Planning Director Rox Burhans, FHNC of Charlotte hopes to build a 6,700 square-foot building which would house two restaurants on each end, plus medical/offices between the two eateries. Plans call for a second building , also about 6,700 square feet, behind the restaurant structure.
The first level of review will be at today’s PDRC meeting, which begins in Town Hall at noon.

Is there even room to jam more development there? Pretty soon there won’t be a tree left in Cornelius, not to mention roads to support all of this overbuilding.
As someone who just moved here, I’m happy Cornelius is finally putting more development in. This is no longer a small town. Let’s keep building, and more restaurants are always a good thing. There is free land to use to build cool projects and make this a 21st century town. Stop dissing it because you’re old (or old fashioned, either way). The next generation approves of this stuff Town Board! Don’t listen to these few voices.
Swell! More traffic on streets that are already overloaded. I am going to miss all the trees we used to have on Catawba Ave, concrete trees are just not as pretty.
So very sad. This is irresponsible growth which lacks any long term vision. We continue to approve more buildings without the infrastructure to support it.
It’s starting to look amazing as a treeless town. Make sure you get em all, we don’t need em. This is getting ridiculous.
Sadness is not a strong enough term. My family’s been here since 1747 and it’s devastating to remember what once was and will never be again. Maybe I’m missing something. Is it fun to spend 45 minutes going 1 mile down the road? Is it wrong to ever stay in and eat at home? Is it ok to do anything without alcohol?
Trees trees rawr trees grumble trees trees!
The only acceptable development in that area would be a Trader Joe’s. Trees are critical to human survival, but they need to stop dropping so many leaves on my driveway.
Oh a Trader Joes would be awesome !
Even though a bit off topic, I need to comment this: Due to over-building in Morrison Plantation in Mooresville, all we have left now is just “Morrison P”, most of the wooded areas are gone!!! The public should go to courts to stop this non-sense. All these greedy city commissioners, developers and builders, I am wondering if they all have colluded together!!!
Why would you put restaurants flanking medical offices? Are they anticipating the food being that bad for your health?
What used to be a great little town is now a town of dread for tons of us and we try not to come to Cornelius unless we absolutely have to. They keep building and building and not doing a thing about the traffic situation. Their thought process quit making sense years ago or when they redid the bridge over 77. Now that’s a hot mess!
Stop! You are ruining Cornelius!!
Enough already
