Sewage spill on Meta

June 16. By Dave Yochum. There’s been another sewage spill into the lake—this one involving 600 gallons that reached a cove off Meta Road. Charlotte Water confirmed the spill was due to a cable sub-contractor.

A no-swimming advisory has been issued.

At 9 this morning workers were digging up and down Meta, including directly in front of the address Charlotte Water reported where the home is listed for sale.

The spill occurred on Meta on the north side of Jetton, between Natalie and the beginning of the Shearwater neighborhood.

Charlotte Water confirmed a sub-contractor accidentally damaged an unmarked low pressure wastewater pipe causing the overflow.

On April 12, Spectrum sub-contractors breached another pipe on Spinnaker’s Reach, not far from Jetton. About 400 gallons out of 630 gallons spilled reached Lake Norman.

And in March cable subs were responsible for two more spills in The Peninsula, one on Mainsail Pointe and one on nearby Peninsula Club.

There have been five sewage spills into Cornelius waters so far this year.
