Leaves: Only a few billion to go

Last Updated: December 3, 2020By Tags:

Dec. 3. Cornelius is once again providing street-side leaf vacuuming services from now through the end of January. However, the town only has one vacuum truck so each neighborhood will be reached no more than once a month. Residents should place leaf piles at the curb. No limbs or trash, please.

“Leaf collection capability is very limited due to budget cuts,” said Commissioner Jim Duke. “Far better to bag leaves for the weekly service by WastePro.”

Indeed, yard waste including leaves can be bagged and left at the curb. The bags are picked up on the same day as trash collection occurs.

All that said, here’s where to track the town’s leaf vacuum team: https://www.cornelius.org/212/Yard-Waste-Collection

Leaves may also be dropped off at the following locations:

North Mecklenburg Recycle Center 12300 N. Statesville Road, Huntersville, NC
Compost Central/Mecklenburg County 140 Valleydale Road, Charlotte, NC
Soil Supply 10219 Hagers Road, Huntersville

The Town actually has four leaf collection trucks. You can track their location on a map at the Town of Cornelius website. Plan to put you leaves out as trucks approach. Cornelius is the only Town in the area providing this service!
