Feb. 1. By Dave Vieser. Architectural plans for the Greenway Gartens project, one of two major developments planned for the northeast section of Cornelius, received a thumbs up at this week’s meeting of the Architectural Review Board.

Any further reviews will be handled at the county level, according to Senior Town Planner Aaron Tucker.

The architectural elevations were presented to the board which recommended approval.

“They noted that the buildings included a mix of architectural styles and were attractive. The next step for the developer would be to submit applications for a formal building permit through Mecklenburg County Building Dept.,” Tucker said.

Charlotte-based Northwood Ravin is redeveloping the old Curtis Screw site on Zion Avenue with a total of 448 residential units and 44,000 square feet of non-residential space.

The first phase of construction includes 346 multi-family units with 14 townhomes, along with up to a 14,000 square foot micro-brewery, restaurant/brewpub and tap room that will accommodate the new Olde Mecklenburg Brewery.

There will also be up to10,000 square feet of indoor events/gathering facility, as well as up to 10,000 square feet of commercial space.

The second phase of the project contains an additional 88 residential units and an additional 10,000 square feetof commercial space.

The Greenway Gartens is the larger of two major mixed use projects planned for the undeveloped areas just north of the Antiquity development.

The other is a new 180 unit active adult/age restricted multi-family complex called Caroline. Developed by Proffitt Dixon Partners, it will include 110 unrestricted multi-family units on a 16 acres.
