Former Huntersville mayor files to run for NC House District 98, which includes Cornelius
Dec. 7. Former Huntersville Mayor Melinda Bales officially filed to run for NC House District 98, which is currently held by Cornelius resident John Bradford.
District 98 includes Huntersville, Cornelius and Davidson. Bradford has announced plans to run for NC Treasurer.

Background
Bales has served as both Commissioner and Mayor of Huntersville for 12 years,
“I feel like it has absolutely prepared me to tackle the issues of education, transportation and economic development in our community, and so much of that is decided in Raleigh,” she said.
Bales has lived in Huntersville for 24 years with her husband and two sons, both of whom are CMS graduates.
When Bales was elected town commissioner in 2011, Huntersville had 45,000 residents. Since then, it has grown more than 44 percent.
Bales listed these achievements:
• Consulting with state transportation officials on long-awaited Gilead Road intersection improvements
• Collaborating with CATS to launch a microtransit pilot program for North Mecklenburg

• Collaborating with Charlotte-Mecklenburg schools to include several major north Mecklenburg
school renovation and construction projects in the proposed 2023 bond package.
Filing ends at noon Dec. 15 for candidates seeking party nominations in the March 5 primaries.
