Exit 28 landscape contract on tonight’s Board agenda Sept. 6

Last Updated: September 6, 2016By

Sept. 6. A $38,880 contract to retain a landscaping firm for work at the Exit 28 intersection with I-77 will be considered by the Cornelius Town Board at their first September meeting. Due to the Labor Day Holiday, the meeting is being held tonight instead of Monday evening.

“This contract with Viz LLC, whose principal owner is Gary Fankhauser,  is for design, bid services, and construction administration services for landscaping elements in the four quadrants of Exit 28,” said Assistant Town Manager Andrew Grant. “The scope of services includes developing sketch design alternatives, schematic design, construction drawings, technical specifications, working with NCDOT for permitting, bidding services, and construction administration services.”

Fankhauser is a Cornelius resident.

Under the proposal, a final design would be presented to the Town by December, and all work would be completed by the end of June, 2017. The meeting will begin at 7 pm at Cornelius Town Hall on Catawba Avenue.

Rather than spending money on landscaping Exit 28, why not spend money to make driving safer by installed lane divider signs when exiting the Exit 25 ramp towards Denver. It’s virtually impossible to see the start of a lane divider at night and while raining as well as daytime. The same in true for so many lane dividers on Catawba by Exit 28 and many other places around Cornelius and Huntersville.

I agree! More safety features. Landscaping that dysfunctional disaster is $38,000 lipstick on a $1,000,000 PIG. Hate it.
