Davidson College Presbyterian contributes $200K to Hope House

Nov. 30. Davidson College Presbyterian Church is contributing $200,000 to the Hope House Foundation to support its affordable housing efforts. The gift is the first of three mission gifts resulting from the church’s Opening Doors Capital Campaign.
The funds will be used to build one of three new cottages in the Norman Park neighborhood in Huntersville.
“Everyone deserves to have a home, both physically and spiritually, which is why we are delighted to partner with DCPC to build the Journey House,” said Hope House Executive Director Debbie O’Handley.
A larger plan
DCPC plans to contribute $575,000 to support affordable housing over the next three years.
Additional housing partners include Habitat for Humanity of the Charlotte Region and the Davidson Housing Coalition.
Background
The church’s Opening Doors campaign raised more than $6.5 million to fund improvements to its facilities, an endowment for a full-time, permanent campus ministry position and affordable housing efforts—from rental assistance to progressive housing and homeownership.
“Affordable housing is an ongoing challenge for many families in our community. Thanks to the generosity of DCPC members, visitors and friends, we are grateful to be able to assist community partners who are living this mission every day, supporting families and individuals who need a safe, decent place to live,” said Associate Pastor for Discipleship and Mission, Rev. Robert Alexander.
Church remodel
The DCPC sanctuary and Lingle Chapel remodels are near completion and new technology will be added soon. Worship services will return to the sanctuary beginning Sunday, Dec. 11.
