July 8. After 21 successful years in business, Cornelius Today has a new owner. Dave Yochum, founder and editor of Cornelius Today, has sold the media company to Cornelius resident Jon Show.

Cornelius Today has served the community since Yochum launched the publication in 2004. For more than two decades the print and online media outlet has informed residents of the latest news and trends in the Cornelius community. Dave and his wife, Tracy, also founded Big Day at the Lake, an annual event that has donated nearly $2 million to Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Central Carolinas and hosts the organization each summer for a day on the lake. Dave and Tracy will continue to reside in The Peninsula and will remain active with Big Day at the Lake.

“We were fortunate to launch Cornelius Today in such a welcoming community,” Yochum said. “I want to thank all of our employees, readers, friends and customers. Everything is in good hands with Jon.”

Cornelius Today includes a monthly print edition that arrives in the mailboxes of more than 30,000 Cornelius residents around the first of each month. It covers local government, real estate, business and community news. A daily newsletter goes out to subscribers sharing current events and happenings in the Cornelius area. Cornelius Today also hosts monthly Newsmakers Breakfast events at the Peninsula Club that provide networking and speaking opportunities for notable local civic, community and business officials.

Show will serve as Owner and Editor of Cornelius Today, working alongside Creative Director Jason Benavides. Following a transition period in July, Yochum will hand over day-to-day responsibilities and shift into an honorary role as Editor Emeritus.

Show, who writes the Modern Dad column that runs monthly in Cornelius Today, has lived in the Charlotte area for more than 25 years. He relocated to Cornelius in 2014 with his wife and their two children. He is an active member of the community, serving as a Cornelius Parks & Recreation commissioner and in numerous volunteer roles with youth sports organizations. He also serves as a mentor for The Mayfly Project, which teaches foster kids to fish. His parents, Burke and Melinda, have resided in the Kings Point community since retiring there in 1999.

“Cornelius Today is truly a community asset, and I look forward to continuing the legacy that Dave has fostered over the last two decades,” said Show. “Given today’s media landscape, community outlets are invaluable for keeping residents of small towns informed about local news, events and entertainment. I have large shoes to fill but I’m excited to serve in that role for the town of Cornelius and our residents.”
