Online comments OK again at town board hearings

Last Updated: September 23, 2021By Tags: ,

Sept. 23. By Dave Vieser. The Cornelius Town Board will again accept citizen comments on public hearings via email, beginning with the Monday October 4 Meeting. The town had previously accepted such email comments during the COVID crisis up until a few months ago.

“The Town wants to provide this option for folks who are uncomfortable coming out to provide comment,” said Deputy Town Manager Wayne Herron. However, unlike their earlier procedure, all email comments must be submitted by 12 Noon the day of the public hearing. In addition, the commissioners will be able to render decisions on the same day as the public hearing.

“The reason for this change is that state law changed,” Herron added.

Those wishing to submit email comments should forward them by 12 noon of the hearing date to [email protected].

In addition to the email process, the town will continue to live-stream board meetings on  www.cornelius.org.

And maybe, it’s six weeks before the election.
