Sidewalk, parking closed in front of downtown building with collapsed roof
Sidewalk closed in front of the old Smith Building downtown
June 8. The sidewalk and on-street parking at 21320 Catawba Ave. will be closed indefinitely for the safety of pedestrians and motorists because of a roof collapse and potential structural issues of the vacant building, the town announced.
The Lake Norman Social District remains open except for in front of 21320 Catawba.
When the safety issues are resolved, the area will fully re-open.

The county did not have to close off the sidewalk and fence deeply into the street. This forces jaywalking, strollers, children, and more into very unsafe situations. This action is more dangerous than a fallen roof. Allow access from the east for safety.
