Oct. 21. By Dave Vieser. The Cornelius Planning Board, acting in its capacity as the Town Board of Adjustment, has approved a variance for the new Seaboy Restaurant and Bar on North Main Street/Highway 115, which will permit the installation of a front facing wall mounted sign.
The operator of the new restaurant, Jonathan Cox, had requested permission to erect the sign.

However, such a sign is not usually permitted within the zoning designation where the restaurant is located, known as Transitional Residential Overlay.
During the hearing held on Oct. 14, Cox said that “the absence of a wall sign would hinder our ability to attract customers and operate efficiently.”
The board members agreed unanimously.
Seaboy will open on North Main, focusing on “good food, community and sustainability,” sometime in mid-November, according to owner-chef Cox. The restaurant is going in the former DanielSan space at 20822 North Main. There will be additional patio seating, as well as a chef’s counter and bar, Cox said.
