Rezoning: Birkdale Village owners ask for delay

Rendering of new Birkdale
Nov. 15. By TL Bernthal. North American Properties, owners of Birkdale Village, are slowing down plans for what could be $250 million in new development. NAP walked back its application for a special-use permit and asked for a delay before bringing a rezoning request and related text amendment before the Huntersville Town Board.
Birkdale Village, the lifestyle center in Huntersville that is wrapping up a $20 million overhaul, wants to add a hotel, as well as office and commercial space and hundreds of multifamily units.
DDRTC Birkdale Village LLC is asking for permission to build:
—A 125-room, seven-story hotel
—350 multifamily units
—150,000 square feet of offices
—25,000 square feet of commercial
NAP has presented plans for a seven-story hotel with retail space, an office building, an apartment building and two parking decks on approximately nine acres, eliciting concerns from some residents.
NAP needs a conditional rezoning, a text amendment and a special-use permit to make it all happen. The text amendment and rezoning request are now scheduled to be heard by Huntersville officials in January, Town Manager Anthony Roberts said. NAP can reapply for a special-use permit at a later date.

And where is the traffic study and road plan to accommodate all of the future traffic to the already-we-have-too-much-traffic issue?
NONE. Build and then worry about it later.
Citizens are NOT happy about the constant overcrowding, the forced upon us overbuilding, congestion… all in the name of GREED. We know how these things worked.
Greed…. Yes, all in the name of greed. Well spoken
Traffic is a major, major issue. Address it or approving something so large is just inviting problems that may take years to resolve.
Most people want to keep Huntersville as a nice little town as ir used to be years ago.
We don’t want an overcrowded towns with mayor traffic congestions …we are getting in that direction already.
You are ruining what the “original draw” for coming to Birkdale was for at least myself and my family. Open space with children doing cartwheels and children laughing and people walking about in a peaceful space. Your destroying what people come for, or should I say came for.
What was beautiful is turning into a circus not a place to go visit and enjoy anymore Came from New York 3 years ago and it’s already turning into a disaster that’s such a shame all in the name of$$$$$$$$
