As a now 25 Year Cornelius Homeowner Citizen….THE TIME HAS COME FOR A ZERO GROWTH POLICY WITHIN CORNELIUS. (I could never imagine such an attitude until 2023.)
I understand property rights….realistic Growth trajectories…aspirations and all such good expectations, work, planning etc. unfortunately the time has come to STOP CORNELIUS GROWTH ASPIRATIONS. 100 % Focus now to $$$ , effort, insistence that Our and NC State resources “ catch up.” NOW.
Traffic studies, political posturing, non tax-paying parties, DREAMERS…maybe tomorrow false hopes have created unreasonable and unacceptable gridlock!
Call it the new green deal….Social engineering….build it they will come dream etc. WE ARE HERE. STOP.
Not acceptable for anyone. I Went 12 miles…24 miles round trip to support a local business today….took one and half hour including 10 minutes to conduct business……..one car length at a time within Cornelius.
I believe you CAN AGREE…..THIS HAS NOW REACHED WELL BEYOND ANY MEASURE OF OK. FOCUS, FIX PRIORITY

Unfortunately, a Zero growth policy is unrealistic. Growth is going to continue regardless of if anyone wants it or not. Cornelius is upside down on its tax base and needs more commercial buildings to offset the residential majority tax base.
I’m always surprised at the people who do not want growth seem to be those that have been here for 25-plus years and always wants thing to be like it was 25 years ago.
I agree, I go out locally as little as possible. The traffic jams are terrible, especially on the east side of 77 on Catawba Ave. Getting to the library and running errands is a time-consuming, gas wasting chore. Cornelius is about to get a much needed hospital – how will even emergency vehicles get there on two-laned Statesville Rd? I realize that zero-growth is next to impossible, but with all the approved residences and business parks already in the works a temporary zero-growth would be an intelligent decision.
I totally concur!! Actually it’s 10 years too late. Crossing I77 from east to west Catawba is practically impossible at any time of the day and vice versa. I’m sure local companies lose business and take other routes to surrounding towns to avoid traffic — I do.
This situation is the same in all surrounding areas. There has NEVER been the property infrastructure to handle any type of growth in advance of such growth and is always many years too late.
Ditto!!! It’s ridiculous trying to travel on Catawba Ave. Poor planning has gotten us into this situation. It needs to be rectified before new growth is approved
It is not too late for a Moratorium on new building in Cornelius. The leadership/DOT have failed to provide current residence the ability to move about the town in an efficient manner. The projects have been delayed for years with possibility of even more delays. The building can begin after the delayed projects have ended. Exit 28 on to Catawba is a joke. Need an exit at 27 for relief.
the crisscross bridge is part of the problem. Traffic circles are a waste of money unless they are on Catawba at the main intersections, Torrance chapel and 21. that could eliminate 4 traffic lights
