Mark Robinson presents alter-ego in LKN Chamber speech

Aug. 16. By Mark Washburn. Mark Robinson sought to shed the image of a radical political tyrant and donned instead the cloak of reason and experience in an address Thursday to the Lake Norman Chamber of Commerce.
Robinson, the Republican nominee for governor against Democrat Attorney General Josh Stein in November’s race, has been shown in attack ads blustering against abortion rights.
But, Robinson told the crowd of more than 100, those images were recorded before his political career began, back when he was less mature and worked as a social media influencer and pundit, where exaggerated postures were part of the routine.

Mark Robinson addressed a crowd of more than 200 at the LKN Chamber luncheon
“TV ads will tell you I’m this crazy guy with two heads who’s going to yell at you all the time,” Robinson told the crowd.
But, he said, he recognizes that policy is not built on one viewpoint.
It is a process of negotiation in the General Assembly and what emerges are laws more acceptable to all.
Robinson, known as a hard-line conservative, has said he stands by the state’s present abortion law, which limits abortions to the first 12 weeks of pregnancy. He said does not intend to use the next four years in struggles over social issues.
Instead, Robinson said, North Carolina needs to improve key services to continue its rapid ascent in growth and economic prosperity.
Emphasis on schools
“Education is absolutely the key to the future of this state,” he said, adding that preparing students for college should not necessarily be the primary goal. North Carolina’s community college system, he said, churns out career-ready graduates headed for six-figure salaries in industrial and service sectors.
“We’re competing on a world stage,” Robinson said. “We need to commit to giving our children a world-class education.”
He added that foundational pillars of education – reading, writing, math, civics and financial literacy – must be stressed in curriculums.
Robinson also said he wanted to improve services offered by the Department of Transportation, Department of Environmental Quality and Department of Motor Vehicles.
Using the example of Amazon’s delivery system, Robinson said, “Wouldn’t it be nice if our government worked with that efficiency?”
Defusing abortion issue
When entering the NorthStone Country Club in Huntersville for the chamber luncheon, Robinson was met by more than a dozen demonstrators, some holding signs about the abortion issue.

In an interview with Cornelius Today after his remarks, Robinson explained why he launched a series of TV ads in which he and his wife disclosed their own abortion.
He said he believed the Stein campaign was going to use his admission of the abortion, originally made in 2012 on Facebook when he was a media influencer, in campaign attacks and sought to head them off.
In the TV ads, Robinson and his wife Yolanda discuss the 1989 abortion with regret.
Robinson told Cornelius Today that Yolanda had gotten pregnant before they married and they opted for abortion, a decision he said pains them still.
But, Robinson said, it had a positive effect – his wife has heard from many women who made the same choice and have the same regrets. It has been therapeutic, he said, for them to share their experiences.
Robinson received a standing ovation, while Stein’s audience, in comparison, offered only polite applause on May 23 when he addressed the Chamber.
Stein focused on the improving economic climate in North Carolina and its increasing popularity as a place to locate new businesses and technology centers.
Stein also told the group that he would try to free entrepreneurs from governmental red tape and seek to help small, minority and women-owned businesses compete for state contracts.”

Wonderful! Great article!!
Do we really want a Dr. Jekyll and Mr Hyde as our Governor?
Josh Stein is a great candidate for governor and I will be proud to have him represent all of the people of North Carolina. He has done a tremendous job as our state attorney general. Robinson can dance all he wants about women’s reproductive rights but the fact is he has made it clear that he is against abortion even in cases of rape and incest. He admits his wife’s abortion that he presumably paid for and claims they regret it which they may. But what is most important is that they had a choice and he wants to deny that choice to others. The MAGA stain runs deep in North Meck and South Iredell so of course he got a standing ovation from those who rely on GOP policies to line their already lined pockets. For everyone else, the choice is clear for the future of representative government in NC and the US and that is to vote Democratic.
Well said, thank you for exposing this poor excuse of a legitimate Republican candidate for governor. The “standing ovation” is unfortunate and a bad look for the LKN Chamber, but not entirely surprising.
Wow! Give Mark Robinson credit for knowing his audience! Where was that common sense guy in Asheville a few days ago? Mark Robinson and Donald Trump are working hard to take our country backwards! He’s a threat to democracy! If he’s unfit to run a daycare, he’s certainly not fit to manage the state! Voting for Josh Stein doesn’t mean you’re a democrat, it means you’re putting your state and country first!
If one didn’t know any different, you would think this guy is running as a Democrat from the tenor of his campaign advertising. Seems to me to be a wolf who is struggling to fit into the sheep’s clothing that his campaign handlers have given him.
Mark Robinson is a hypocrite through and through!
His hardline and misogynistic stance on abortion is well documented, yet less than a month ago, in a cynical effort to rehabilitate his image before the story was publicized again, he and his wife admitted to having an abortion before they were married.
This week he pandered to a Chamber audience saying that he thinks “We need to commit to giving our children a world-class education.” But as reported by WRAL, Robinson said at a private event near Asheville on July 10th, that he wants the state to turn down all federal money for education, ignoring the fact that for MANY North Carolina children, federal funding for schools provides their only hope for an educational foundation.
Mark Robinson would be a disaster as Governor. We do not need hypocrites in the governor’s mansion!!!
He is extreme to Black people, with his insane in the membrane MAGA rants, maybe he back on his med
The fact that Robinson’s meeting with the Chamber of Commerce gets an article while Stein’s meeting with the same group gets a synopsis in the last few paragraphs is telling in itself.
I read Cornelius Today for its usual unbiased coverage. Sadly surprised by this article.
Stein visited the chamber in May. That’s when we covered his visit.
I have searched the site for an article regarding Stein’s visit in May, and using the search box on this page I can’t seem to find it. Can you point me to it?
It ran in our business publication June 5: https://www.businesstodaync.com/nc-attorney-general-josh-stein-provides-state-of-business-climate-for-lkn-chamber/ There’s a live link in the Cornelius Today story.
Thanks for the link. As I said, searching for this article on your Cornelius Today website brings up no results. And the tone of the two articles is completely different. It’s disappointing.
I find that Robinson made extreme comments about abortion and the Holocaust. He is now playing the political – Trump came. He cannot be the Governor of NC.
Robinson is a conspiracy theorist, homophobe, racist, mysogynist, extremist, election denier, and liar. He advocated to kill his political enemies. Based on Robinson’s record–all in print and on video for all the see–most all of what he told the chamber that you reported on in your article was a lie to get elected. If elected, he will work to destroy public education in our state. His brand is already toxic nationally and internationally, and having him leader of our state will make it less likely for businesses to move here. Apple is already more than hinting that they will not move operations to Raleigh were he to win. Shame on the chamber audience for giving him a standing ovation. Stein is the antithesis of Robinson and will serve our state with honor and distinction. This is not about political parties. This is about a rabble rousing, unqualified conspiracy theorist verses a highly qualified, centrist public servant who has his head screwed on straight and is acting out care and compassion rather than aggression and hate. To say NC deserves better than the lying and dangerous Robinson is the understatement of the year.

Michelle Obama say when MAGA go low, there no place for them to especially to go in the Whitehouse or the Governor mansion in North Carolina
