
Birkdale Village | Jamestown LP
Feb. 26. The Huntersville Planning Board voted 4-3 against plans to add a 125-room hotel, 150 multi-family units, commercial space and an office building to Birkdale Village, the town’s largest taxpayer.
Jamestown, the new owner of the mixed-use project, emphasized the economic benefits of the plan, which is largely the same as an earlier plan from the previous owner, North American Properties.
Brick and mortar retail is suffering nationwide. Joann Fabrics is the latest retailer to announce it will close stores in 2025, as well as Big Lots, Macy’s, Kohl’s and JCPenney.
The Huntersville Board of Commissioners will take up the rezoning request on March 18.
The new plan includes removing two buildings and building a six-story office structure, a six-story multifamily building and a five-story hotel. Two parking decks would be replaced with a seven-story, 537-space parking deck and a four-story, 291-space parking deck.

While I was born and raised in Charlotte, I genuinely enjoy spending time away from the city. The ambiance of Huntersville brings to mind the essence of Charlotte in the late 1980s. I hope that Huntersville continues to maintain its unique character, upholding its neighborly charm and steering clear of challenges like high crime rates and traffic congestion.
Thank goodness, COMMON SENSE” seems to have made a comeback! Until there is a “proven” plan for further road/ street development this whole grandiose idea needs to be shut down! Traffic at this exit is a TOTAL NIGHTMARE and no multi number of roundabouts is going to cure it!
Too many people, roads cannot handle well.
