Hopewell senior lands EnergyUnited scholarship

May 18. Sonya Eason, a senior at Hopewell High School, has won a $5,000 “Empowering the Future” scholarship from EnergyUnited. The Huntersville student will be attending Duke University in the fall, exploring interests in both engineering and global health, according to a press release from EnergyUnited.

She is part of her high school’s Beta Club, Mu Alpha Theta, and National Technical Honor Society.

Outside of school, she serves as a Blood Donor Ambassador for the American Red Cross and a regular volunteer for Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation.

EnergyUnited Electric Membership Corporation (EMC) is the largest electric cooperative in North Carolina serving nearly 135,000 meters.
