Gov. Roy Cooper has ordered all US and North Carolina flags at state facilities to be lowered to half-staff until sunset on Monday, March 22 in honor of the victims of the shootings in Georgia. “As we come together to end the spread of COVID-19, we must come together to end racial and ethnic prejudice and violence. This year we’ve seen an alarming increase in anti-Asian hate speech and violence and it must end now,” Cooper said

Given that there has been no official statement that the Georgia shootings were racially motivated, Gov. Cooper’s gesture is irresponsible.
Perhaps we should fly flags at half staff to mourn the death of honesty and integrity in the media and government.
