COVID-19 update Sept. 2

Sept. 2. By Dave Yochum. The NC Dept. of Health & Human Services this morning reported 7,901 new cases, as Mecklenburg hospitals report an alarming increase in COVID patients, the vast majority of them unvaccinated.

Statewide, the NCDHHS is reporting 3,789 people hospitalized due to COVID, more than 10 times more than in late June.

Deaths

The NCDHHS today reported 96 new COVID deaths statewide.

Testing

Positive tests fell to 12.6 percent statewide.

Mecklenburg

In Mecklenburg County, there were 586 new cases overnight as well as six new COVID-related deaths. The county-wide positive test rate is 13.1 percent.

North Mecklenburg (change from Wednesday)

Cornelius: 25 new cases, 3,511 cumulative total, 26 deaths total.

Davidson: 7 new cases, 2,053 cumulative total, 15 deaths total.

Huntersville: 41 new cases, 7,578 cumulative total, 58 deaths total.

    It’s here again, guys. Time to get vaccinated and put on the masks. No more “Give me liberty and give me Covid” talk. Listen to the people dying and wishing they had been vaccinated. But then. . . too late.
