County holding hearing, vote on MPTA formation

Sept. 15. The Mecklenburg Board of County Commissioners on Sept. 16 is scheduled to hear public input and vote on whether to authorize the formation of a Metropolitan Public Transportation Authority as part of an upcoming ballot measure.

In addition to receiving comments and voting, the board will discuss the application and qualification process for interested residents. The hearing and vote are on the agenda for the board’s regular meeting at 6 p.m. at the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Government Center in uptown Charlotte.

Residents who want to address the board may sign up online or call 980-314-2912. Written comments can be submitted by email to [email protected].

If the board authorizes the authority’s formation, applications for membership will be accepted Sept. 17 through Oct. 13.

If Mecklenburg County voters approve the 1% sales tax increase, the revenue would be dedicated to transportation projects such as roads, rail and buses. The measure would also create the new transportation authority, which would include community representatives.

Citizens need to vote against this Train Wreck!

The Authority will again be totally controlled by Mecklenbrug County.

There is no assurance North Meck will ever see a rail line.

We have been paying for transit for almost 30 years and have seen nothing for it.

Mecklenburg County has already shown they can not keep people safe on transit.

Vote NO on the 1 cent sales tax increase!
