Cornelius Community Garden 10-year anniversary event

Aug. 31. The Cornelius Community Garden on Catawba Avenue just east of Statesville Road, now 10 years old, is part of a larger movement toward healthier, local food and improving our food systems.

More than 40 community gardeners and Smithville residents gathered for the 10-year anniversary of the garden.

The property is leased by the Town of Cornelius to the Smithville Community Coalition.

Lisa Mayhew-Jones, the SCC residential services project manager, is the grand-daughter of the original owner of the property.
