Board of Adjustment will rule on Total Wine sign

Total Wine’s original proposal

Dec. 12. By Dave Vieser. New sign options for the Total Wine store on Torrence Chapel Road will be considered for a variance by the Board of Adjustment at tonight’s meeting. In addition, the sign locations have been changed.

“Total Wine will be located in the northern portion of the former Stein Mart location” said senior town planner Becky Partin. Previously, the Total Wine store was going to be in the southern portion, closest to West Catawba.

A variance would be needed since the firm is proposing a sign that would exceed the maximum allowed height of three feet and the maximum sign size of 100 square feet.

At the same meeting, the board, which is composed of the Planning Board members, will also consider a variance for an expansion of Home Depot on Hwy. 21.

The meeting will commence at 6:30 pm in Town Hall on Catawba Avenue.

Since the board approved such a ridiculous neon signage on the Cain Center (which is an eyesore in itself), why would there be an issue with Total Wine signage?? This board continues to make the most ridiculous decisions for our Town which used to be just fine with its historical architecture, to include beautiful, residential downtown homes and stores. Seems all this board wants to do is erase history!! Shameful!!
