Sept. 14. Dave Vieser. One of the oldest and best-known businesses in Cornelius has been nominated as an official historic landmark. The Potts Barber Shop on Catawba Ave., according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Historic Landmarks Commission, became the town’s first integrated barber shop in 1972.

The Mecklenburg County Commission will conduct a public hearing Sept. 13; the Cornelius Town Board hearing will be Sept. 20. The plaque is expected to be dedicated during Black History Month in February 2022.
