Atrium breaks ground for new hospital in Cornelius
June 1. Atrium Health broke ground yesterday for its newest hospital, Atrium Health Lake Norman. The 170,000 square-foot facility located on much of the old Cooke family farm between I-77 and Hwy 21, means greater access to health care in North Mecklenburg. The new hospital is expected to open its doors in 2025 with approximately 280 new jobs.

Awesome news for the medical care for our citizens! A huge day for our town… It’s great when a plan comes together!
Welcome Atrium Hospital Lake Norman!!
Mayor Washam
What do you plan on doing about the increased traffic? I’m sure there’s a very viable plan like including a turn lane. NC-21 is a mess at certain times now. Especially at Bailey Rd. and Westmoreland. Those who live on the peninsula can’t be bothered with that though.
Fantastic work for our community!!!
