Sidewalk on West Catawba completed

Feb. 11. By Dave Vieser. It took five months, but the sidewalk in front of the Junker Apartment complex on West Catawba Avenue has finally been completed.

Pedestrians and cyclists have been out of luck since September when it came to safely passing in front of the apartment project where the White House Gardens stood for years before moving to Denver. There’s not a pedestrian pathway on the other side of West Catawba where a pedestrian was killed a little over two years ago.

No notice was provided to residents by the town or developer in September when the walkway suddenly closed but Cornelius Today first reported on this problem, which forced pedestrians to walk in a drainage ditch or next to traffic in an accident-prone stretch of road.

A sidewalk that ends with a drop off into a pile of debris is hardly done.

No, but it’s a good Shel Silverstine book

what should it of taken? Real story is neighborhood behind this project has blocked connectivity that could have been used but you all won’t write about that. Are we a community city or not? Great story!

Ooh. Now you can stand safely while you scan the horizon that has gone from beautiful trees to … well, overdevelopment most would say.

Why are there still big chunks of wood hanging from the utility lines above the new sidewalk in front of the Junker property? Dangerous! I notified the city months ago as well as Duke Power. Nothing has been done??
