Police will get forfeited assets worth $240K-plus

March 5. By Dave Vieser. At their Monday March 4 meeting, the Cornelius Town Board unanimously approved the application of $241,400 in asset forfeiture funds to assist the Cornelius Police Department. The breakdown of the funds are as follows:

—$118,200 to assist the department in the operation of their K-9 police operations;
—$52,000 for new handguns with optics;
—$48,800 for ammunition, SWAT related tools;
—$16,000 for breaching tools;
—$6,100 for drug terminator programs.

The Asset Forfeiture Fund Program was established in 1984 by the federal government to provide assistance to local police.

Royal Bliss

Also at the March 4 meeting, the commissioners unanimously approved a rezoning to permit the construction of Royal Bliss Brewery on West Catawba Avenue. There were no comments against the project, and Royal Bliss officials hope to have their restaurant/Brewery open sometime in 2025.

    Instead of just reposting items from the agenda packet why doesn’t CT make an attempt at actual journalism and find out about the source of all of these funds CPD has at their disposal?
