Cornelius Police officer OK after crash on I-77

CPD patrol car totaled on I-77
May 12. By Dave Yochum. A Cornelius police officer is OK after his cruiser was involved in a crash with another car on I-77 early this morning.
The wreck happened at about 1 am where the toll lanes merge with the general purpose lanes near Exit 25.
The driver of the other vehicle was hospitalized with serious injuries.
Based on preliminary investigation by NC Highway Patrol, Officer Levi Snellings was northbound on 77 returning from the county jail when struck by another vehicle.
Snellings, who joined the force in 2019, was not at fault.
The impact caused his cruiser to go into the median where it struck a storm culvert, totaling the vehicle.
The other driver remains in the hospital with serious injuries. Snellings was taken to the hospital and released with minor injuries.

So glad that Officer Snellings is okay. Thank you for all you do for our country and town.
Prayers for the complete recovery of both persons involved.
That looks like a pretty bad accident.
So happy Officer Snellings is okay. This incident is an example of how our policeman risk their lives every single day.
We have great police officers in Cornelius and they do great service.
Hats off to Snellings and all officers and staff who work hard to protect us. Your jobs are not easy.
Unfortunately the driver of the other vehicle passed away. All parties need prayer not just the officer.
So sad for all involved.
Stay frosty- it’s crazy out there. That particular entrance/ exit ; if it’s the one I’m thinking of, is particularly dangerous since the ingress/ egress from the toll lanes happen simultaneously.
Our interstates are getting terrifying.
