Davidson scores ‘walk friendly’ honors for 11th year

Last Updated: June 23, 2022By Tags:

June 23. The Town of Davidson is a Bronze-level Walk Friendly Community (WFC) for the 11th straight year. In the 12 years since the program began, only 82 cities and towns across 32 States have received WFC designations.

What is WFC?

WFC is a national recognition program developed to encourage cities and towns across the country to develop and support walking environments with an emphasis on safety, mobility, access, and comfort. Managed by the University of North Carolina Highway Safety Research Center (HSRC), the program distinguishes communities leading the way in walkability and seeks to share their stories to inspire other communities to move toward their own innovative solutions.

Charlotte is a Silver level city, Washington, DC is Gold and San Francisco is Platinum.

“The Board of Commissioners, our advisory boards, and many other partners have all worked collaboratively with town staff to help make streets safer for our residents and improve walkability and mobility options throughout town,” said Town Manager Jamie Justice.

Walk friendly? Davidson has had 3 people that I know hit and killed by a vehicle. How is that ‘walk friendly’?

How many people have to be hit and killed by a car while walking in Davidson before they lose this “award”?

“run over friendly” is more like it! LOL. Poor little Davidson, an over populated spot were every car converges into the miniscule downtown area, and pedestrians are free game for vehicles.
