March 29. The mayor, Board of Commissioners are holding a budget workshop on March 30-31 at the Graylyn International Conference Center in Winston-Salem.

The retreat, a special town board meeting that is open to the public, is a two-day work session where the mayor, members of the Board of Commissioners and key staffers take a deep dive into the details of municipal budgeting and goal-setting.

The workshop runs from 9 am to 5 pm on March 30 and from 9 am to noon March 31.

Is it really necessary to travel outside of Cornelius and pay over $500 per night with tax payers money for a “budget retreat”. This venue seems more like a location for a wedding. It would seem more appropriate to spend those dollars in our local market. Not a supporter of this.

Again, why out-of-town? It is very inconvenient for an “open-to-the-public” meeting! They get expenses reimbursed – do the citizens of Cornelius, who have the time to drive up and back, get reimbursed for their gas? Who pays for the over-night on March 30th? Who pays for the out-of-town meals? I think our town coffers will be “out-of-pocket” and “into-unnecessary-spending”!
Will there be an accounting for the cost of this MOST IMPORTANT RETREAT – TREAT?

Why are they wasting taxpayer dollars to have a retreat? Why out of town, especially if you are pretending to invite the public? Smells bad.

      Completely agree!
