COVID update Aug. 3: 58% of NC adults fully vaccinated

Aug. 3. The NC Dept. of Health & Human Services Tuesday reported 2,188 new cases of the coronavirus statewide as well as a total of 1,465 hospitalizations due to COVID.

Hospitalizations due to COVID are 25 percent ahead of the statewide total on Friday July 30.

There were nine new COVID deaths statewide in Tuesday’s NCDHHS report.

Testing

Positive testing statewide is at 10.8 percent in Tuesday’s report.

Vaccinations

The nation reached a milestone of getting at least one coronavirus vaccine dose to 70 percent of adults on Monday, a month after President Biden’s original July 4 goal. In North Carolina, 61 percent of the adult population has received one dose; 58 percent have received both.

Mecklenburg County

In Mecklenburg County, there were 293 new coronavirus cases between Monday’s report and Tuesday’s. There was one new COVID-related death. The county-wide positive test rate is 10.7 percent according to NCDHHS. The goal is 5 percent, and trending down.

North Mecklenburg (change from Monday to Tuesday)

Cornelius: 4 new cases, 3,055 cumulative; 26 deaths total.

Davidson: 5 new cases, 1,795 cumulative; 15 deaths total.

Huntersville: 3 new cases 6,447 cumulative; 54 deaths total.

    according to the attached chart there were 392 deaths nationwide and 95 of them were in 3 towns in Mecklenburg county?

      The chart is a nationwide report. Yes, there were 392 new COVID deaths nationwide, hence +392. Our dive into local data, for Cornelius, Davidson and Huntersville, shows 95 total cumulative deaths since the outbreak began last year.
