New COVID cases hit 1,434 statewide

July 21. The NC Dept. of Health & Human Services today reported 1,434 new COVID-19 cases statewide, well above the daily increases of 300-500 seen in late June/early July. The positive test rate increased again, to 7.9 percent, up from around 2 percent in late June/early July.

Hospitalizations due to COVID-19 rose to 694 in today’s NCDHHS report, from fewer than 400 on July 1.

Overnight, there were  9 new deaths attributable to the coronavirus.

Mecklenburg County

In Mecklenburg County, there were 231 new coronavirus cases, and one new COVID-related death.

North Mecklenburg (change from Tuesday to today)

Cornelius: 14 new cases, 2,959 cumulative; 26 deaths total.

Davidson: 5 new cases, 1,738 cumulative; 15 deaths total.

Huntersville: 11 new cases 6,193 cumulative; 54 deaths total.

Gov. Cooper is expected to hold a press conference on the new COVID numbers today.

    Correction: There were 22 hospitalized with COVID yesterday statewide. There were 9 deaths. The current statewide NC 7 day average is 5.6 deaths per day…

      “Hospitalizations due to COVID-19 rose to 694 in today’s NCDHHS report, from fewer than 400 on July 1” is correct as per NCDHHS. That’s up from 396 on July 1; up 22 from yesterday. You can visit NCDHHS for COVID data five days a week: https://covid19.ncdhhs.gov/dashboard
