LKN protestors join demonstration in US Capital
Jan. 6. By Dave Yochum. A bus with 50 people from Lake Norman is among 65 bus loads of people from North Carolina who have descended on the US Capital to protest the certification of Joe Biden’s election as president of the United States.
None of the 50 Lake Norman protestors are in the Capitol building that CNN anchor Wolf Blitzer calls a “horrible, horrible” situation, according to one of the protestors, Cornelius resident and gun range owner Brian Sisson.
”The protests were loud and peaceful until the capital gestapo [sic] started firing tear gas unprovoked. It’s amazing how all the electeds are reacting when they piss off the conservatives. Keep up the good work,” Sisson said on a Facebook post.

His wife Tricia Sisson is a Cornelius Town Commissioner who did not attend. Brian Sisson is a former Huntersville Town Commissioner. In January 2020 Brian Sisson launched a petition drive to run as an independent for NC Senate District 41, the seat once held by former Cornelius Mayor Jeff Tarte.
In a Facebook conversation with this reporter, he said he did not believe any of the local group that went to the protest went into the Capitol building.
”The only injuries I believe were sustained by actions from the Capitol Police and Secret Service,” Sisson said.
One of the organizers of the LKN contingent was Cornelius resident Lane Yates. He could not be reached for comment.
Headlines from other countries used the word “insurrection” as President-elect Joe Biden addressed the country at 4 pm today from Wilmington, Del.

Biden spoke briefly about the events on Capitol Hill, quoting Lincoln and telling Donald Trump to appear on national television and call for an end to the chaos inside the Capitol.
He ignored shouted questions about whether he was concerned about the inauguration, then returned to stage to say:
“I am not concerned about my safety, security, or the inauguration… The American people are going to stand up, stand up now. Enough is enough is enough.”
The National Guard has been deployed after Metropolitan Police were overwhelmed.

I thought our country believed in innocent until proven guilty who were these people who did deplorable acts. Are the Trump supporters or others. Same as all the rioting and looting all over my country this summer why the terrible reactions of people without learning the truth. I do not remember when people believed the worst until these last few years. I am ashamed of my country.

The moment the protestors violently broke down the fence and entered Capitol grounds, they became trespassers. And when they forced their way into the building, it became an insurrection. Anyone who commits violence for religious or political purposes is a terrorist. The domestic terrorists stormed the halls of our Capitol building and violently stopped our government from conducting business. Anarchy. Sedition. Donald Trump tweeted “Anarchists, Agitators, or Protestors who vandalize or damage our Federal Courthouse in Portland, or any Federal Buildings in any of our Cities or States, will be prosecuted under our recently re-enacted Statues & Monuments Act. MINIMUM TEN YEARS IN PRISON. Don’t do it! @DHSgov” on July 27th of 2020. I, for one, really appreciate that they did that, since it will apply to today’s shameful behavior.
Thanks for naming names in your article. Now I know who NOT to vote for, and will be sure to pass the message on to my neighbors as well. I imagine this article will come in handy when the FBI investigation and Congressional hearings start up. At a minimum they’ll know that a bus with 50 people from Cornelius was there.
This is a dark day in our history. What is happening is a coup attempt incited by POTUS, who had the audacity to tell a worked up crowd to head down there and “get tough”. Pretty soon it’s going to get real for those people. And ultimately we all suffer because of the insanity. Everyone has a right to freedom of speech, a right to gather, and a right to protest. No one has the right to do what that crowd did today.

Four people died. One from gun shot by police and three from “medical events.” These terrorists where white. Some white supremists. And they wandered about the Capitol like free reign tourists while people were trapped in a section of a chamber scared out of their minds while hearing gunshots and beating on the chamber door and being ordered to put on gas masks in case chemical agents were found. Two explosive devices were found and deactivated.
The Governor of Oregon’s home was breached by white US terrorists and he was relocated for safety.
And yet those that had part in this are proud of what they did.
This is not America. Or it shouldn’t be. But a charismatic (to some) and mentally unstable president rolled these Trump supporters up for years to hate, to insult and to “fight” while tying it to politics.
The Senate has a chance to take this mentally ill man down with Impeachment. They were warned he would keep doing this.
It’s time for the GOP to re-evaluate. What do they stand for really? And what methods should be used to “win.”
The morals and ethics culminated into a white terrorist attack on the heart and soul of our nation.

The folks from LKN were not at apart of storming the Capitol building. We were all peacefully protesting as were most of the people attending. We sang songs like proud to be an American, amazing grace, America The beautiful. We believe we were possibly infiltrated by BLM & ANTIFA. We don’t smash windows.

I realized after the Presidential election, the Cornelius area seriously supported Trumpism. I know the Yates family was responsible for the Trump Boat Parade which high jacked our celebration of our country’s birth and instead made it a celebration of Trump. I respect Republicans, but have no respect for Retrumplicans. I was a Republican for years, but no more. The Republican Party needs to take their party back. The behavior we are witnessing is an insurrection and attack on our democracy.
I am ashamed of everyone from Cornelius that participated in this debacle of an event! Break into and vandalize our Capital …come on people, that’s not a show of democracy! Do you realize how this looks to other countries? I’m sure Putin is impressed!! Quarantine before you return….didn’t look like social distancing and wearing masks were being practiced much at all.
This is truly and VERY sad day for our country where the “ leader “ of this administration spews lies of unfounded voter fraud, has no concern for the 3,000 daily deaths from this pandemic (yes I know many other people die from many other causes). Had the WHO been at ground zero the moment people fell ill to this virus (as they did for Ebola, etc… which were adverted) this too could have been treated as seriously.
The world is laughing at us with a person at the helm who has no class, no decency, no empathy, no rationale, no clear understanding of how our democracy works, and finally someone who is not in our reality.
Since the last election, it has been difficult to watch any news outlet with the main focus has been on “he-who-should-never-be-named-again” for his unrelenting demand to be in the spotlight everyday.
Yes, we all have differences of opinions and beliefs, for which we are fortunate to say allowed without retribution and fear of prosecution (or at least that is the core of what our country was founded on). We should accept our differences, not shove it into another’s face.
Democracy : government by the people; a form of government in which the supreme power is vested in the people and exercised directly by them or by their elected agents under a free electoral system.
We are created to be unique, no one person should be held above another. Equality for all must be our focus, and promote understanding, acceptance and a spirit to work together. Not divided.
This platform for me to speak my mind is what my father fought to protect in the US Navy for 28 years. You may not agree with me…that is your right, but you cannot provoke to hate and incite violence and damage to property. This applies to people from all walks of life. Peaceful protest is one thing, what happened today (as well as other events) makes be sick and disgusted.
Don’t like how the government is run, you have three options.
1. Vote for another candidate.
2. Run yourself and support changes you believe in.
3. Move to another country.
If we are all going to live in this area, we, too better learn how to respect and listen and compromise….are we grown ups….if so, can we grow up and keep our country a democracy…I sure hope so!

For 2 years we had riots all around the Country, burning towns down, looting, throwing bricks and fire bombs at police and Biden and his VP were raising funds to bail out criminals and not a word in Cornelius Today. I take my hat off to Brian for traveling to Washington to protest. He didn’t do anything wrong so why was this story even written 2 weeks before a local election. Brian is a great American and next time I’ll join him in Washington. He didn’t break any laws and we won’t either but we will show our support and save this Country
